Take a stroll through your local farmers market and score some mood improving veggies. Sprouting up seasonally, these greens are sure to get you grinning from ear to ear. Avocados Even though they're technically a fruit, avocados help increase the blood flow to your brain because they contain healthy mono-saturated fats. Slice one up for your salad next time you're feeling a little foggy. Okra Veggies rich in calcium, like okra, can positively stimulate the neurotransmitters, dopamine and noradrenaline, to make your more alert and fight off lethargy. Tomatoes Rich in heart-rate-controlling potassium, fresh tomatoes also contain mood-boosting vitamin B and calcium Fennel More than just an accent to add to fancy salads, fennel is a summer root vegetable that can help stave off irritability and depression. Because it's a complex carbohydrate, this veggie helps supply the body with a steadier supply of glucose and prevents nasty little mood dips. Corn Packed with anger-squashing vitamin B, corn is a tasty and effective veggie for chilling out on spring and summer nights. Kale If you're feeling bloated or agitated, try incorporating more kale into your diet. The now-uber-popular green has anti-inflammatory properties that will help you feel less puffy. Spinach Feeling panicked? Munch on some spinach. The magnesium in this leafy green will help calm down your nervous system-and you. Red Peppers Not only are red peppers packed with minerals, like iron, potassium, and magnesium, but these colorful veggies have enough fiber to fuel tired brains and boost moods Broccoli Packed with iron, which helps carry oxygen through your blood, broccoli is an ideal mood-enhancing snack and helps fuel your brain. Turnips Rich in mood-boosting folic acid (folic acid deficiencies have been linked to depression), turnips and turnip greens help maintain proper serotonin levels. Plant this root veggie now to enjoy it later in the summer-and do it again in the fall for year-long benefits. "One of the most sublime experiences we can ever have is to wake up feeling healthy after we have been sick. Even if it is only relief from a headache or toothache, the health we take for granted most of the time is suddenly seen to be an incredible blessing."
Rabbi Harold Kushner Studies have found that teens who have 5 or more family dinners per week are three times less likely to try marijuana, two and a half times less likely to smoke cigarettes and one and a half times less likely to drink alcohol than those who eat less often with their families. To adequately nourish your body, spirit and family while eating, slow down. Take time to enjoy your meal and conversation with family. You will find it is well worth the extra few minutes. Ask yourself, how healthy am I? Do I incorporate elements of health in my life, fresh air, pure water, whole food, exercise, rest and sleep, deep breathing, sunshine and peace?
Persistence makes up for lack of skill in anything you choose to master, especially when you are working towards your fitness goals. Research shows being outdoors lowers stress and promotes a sense of well-being. Gardening will burn around 340 calories per hour. Enjoy making your yard look great by getting out the hoe, rake, and shovel. Spend time creating a beautiful garden to enjoy while getting in shape at the same time.
Research also shows that walking on a regular basis seems to reduce the amount of memory protecting brain tissue you lose with age. Choosing healthy habits over unhealthy habits can be challenging, but it is easier than facing early aging of the mind and body. Looking for motivation, visit a nursing home to see the results of unhealthy habits.
Have learned much in the past year as I reflect on all that has happened...
Although, I do try not to stay in the past for to too long! The only good thing of reflection is to see all the growth and evolution of ones experiences. Don't you think? Not sure about you but as for me, I acquired much growth in 2011! First and foremost to sum it all up, I would say “we need to stop complicating life”! Simply focus on enjoy, enjoy enjoy the journey! And trust me folks when I say that I know that it is much easier said than done, especially in this day and age... This is all coming from someone like me to which practically struggled every day for 2011 and with challenges throughout my life. Again to be totally honest, I have come to realize that most of these struggles or challenges are really just lessons to learn by! I suppose, staying connected to one’s self is the way to understand this process… Life has so much to offer and truly it is a journey and not the destination that really matters! Alright to lighten up just a little and try to stop sounding so deep and profound, let us get to the heart of matters. 2012 is really what matters! Not to contradict myself by believing we should live in the moment and then plan ahead for the coming days, months, years, and our future, which really is a total contradiction! But planning can be relative though. Planning can be an obsession with lists and rules and such, or planning can simply be sending out your intentions, your vibrations...which is obviously the way I see it! Now, today the first day of 2012 my intentions are to send out best wishes for ultimate health, peace, love, joy and vitality to myself, my loved ones and last but certainly not least, the universe!. All that recognize that life is truly about appreciating what you have in its entirety! Sincerely Sonia With love, Aloe Vitality 2012!!! I like to pride myself on having these leading edge traits...
Being optimistic and positive an overall good person despite any circumstances (not always the case), yet there is one particular thing that gets me every time and challenges my positivity. Injustice or unfairness!!! When I see, hear and know for a fact of anyone being cheated, mistreated, taken advantage of, misrepresented or lied too...it makes me crazy! Especially when it hits home! Unfortunately, its all around us! On a more spiritual level, these people are put into our lives to helps us grow. As for me, when it hits home, I think it triggers a childhood belief of how my sister and I were mistreated (she has a physical disability) and all the abuse we endured! So, here I will turn that into a positive thought process by voicing my concerns of such injustice (even to ourselves) and then letting it go! In addition, I will explain why I have been so absent here at Aloe Vitality and not keeping up with 'Sonia's Blog'... Unfortunately, I have been unavailable or even neglectful and irresponsible with my own wellness as well as yours to some extent... That to say, "I'M FINALLY BACK"!!!! I had taken on a new job (career) over 7 months ago, and I totally through myself into making it work and unavoidably it drained much of my time & energy. Since this past May, I've not been able to follow-up on all of my contacts here with 'Aloe Vitality' nor my own well-being. Yet, my passion, values and morals didn't part and were not surrendered from my soul. The body on the other-hand digests gets the worst of it! Being confronted with my principals, takes a toll. That type of stress definitely does a number on your mind and body! Although, regardless, let us remember that from every negative situation comes a positive one! Thankfully, Aloe Vitality continues to be a huge presence in my life. I'm thriving on feeling well, along with the aloegel and the other amazing Forever's products. Need to ensure health, specifically under tough circumstances! Hard to focus on the “big picture”when you're distracted and or influenced of others energies. I have come to a point in my life where I will not tolerate or settle for anything less than my values. Simple really, what I value and what I really want to represent is one thing most and that is "to stand for the good and share goodness with everyone" and thrive on only Win/Win situations. Professionally and personally! Unfortunately, in today's world, this doesn't always work well with people that are only self-serving! There are many! I have found that my weakness or downfall is that I am completely trustworthy, empathetic and can be too selfless! So many times these characteristics of mine are taken advantage of, misunderstood, judged... Oh well, I always said "I can sleep well and love to sleep"! I do have those times when I am too wired and have much on my mind but I use that energy in a constructive way, otherwise I love the comfort of sleep! This blog is really all about "speaking out" and "staying true" to yourself. I understand that may get you into situations, nonetheless it is a way of making yourself feel clean, clear and understood! Not always received well though! Specifically from people that lack the sincerity or ingenuity of integrity! As for me, I've been this way since I was a little girl! Prior to the age of 12, I took much abuse from my mother and just had to take it! Well, I choose to take it (I was a child) until I started to exercise my right for defending what felt right and what felt wrong. Protecting and defending became a way of life, for myself and my sisters and to not allow our mother to hurt us too much. She was able to physically hurt us, but we had control over our own minds! I learned quickly how to defend my mind and I did this by teaching myself values and developing my own morals and principals. Her ways and knowing how wrong they were helped me become what I am today! I know that I am unique and special and that I have much to offer! I developed and struggled much so to practice and preach what I believe. That is how I could say I started really loving myself? Realizing my potential and putting it in the right place...The past is past and what was created was to provide footprints towards the future! Having only good intentions and understanding is key. Now, I am choosing to spread the word of how to take the best care of yourself... That continues to be my goal for Aloe Vitality. I am taking this Aloe Vitality "wellness" very seriously (although I still like having fun) and have just updated my free samples/contact page. I have included an important video, following questions... Please take the time (for you) and listen to what the video has to say! I am very confident that this will not only benefit your health and if you allow it, your financial freedom as well! Wishing you much love and vitality, From Sonia letting go, learning and moving on! |
